In Focus – BAT and BRAVE
BAT is shorthand for Basic Attention token.
An ERC20-token using the Ethereum-blockchain.
Its purpose and philosophy?
The underlying idea on which this token was created is the following:
“Digital Advertising is broken”.
The team behind BAT, correctly, points out that the digital advertising market is filled with middlemen, bots and fraudulent accounts which hurts users, publishers and advertisers.
Indeed, when browsing the web will users frequently encounter:
– Ads and trackers (which can easily eat-up 50% of mobile data).
– Prolonged loading times due to adverts
– (this results in) decreased phone battery lives
As a result of the advertisements, users arm themselves with adblockers and firewalls.
This in turn hurts genuine publishers due to:
– Dwindling revenues
– Fraudulent bots inflicting damage and negating trust
– monetizing additional services (due to fraudulent bots) becoming cumbersome.
This in turn hurts the advertisers by reason
– non-transparency for paid services
– Prevalence of bogus websites and bots committing fraud.
– Poor targeting whereby the ads do not reach the users who have interest in the service.
– General distrust from creators and users to invest in advertisers due to the aforementioned reasons
With this in mind did the team behind BasicAttentionToken create a new browser: BRAVE .
The browser performs in accordance to the ideology behind the BAT-token.
It is a merit-based, fast, reliable browser which rewards all (user, producer and advertiser) involved.
The browser itself is a work of art.
It combines the prowess of both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers, downscales RAM-usage (which is a frequent point of complaint with both) and permits 2 levels of “private” browsing.
The highest level of incorporated “private” browsing is making use of the incorporated Tor-browser which uses the DuckDuckGo – search engine (see image below).

When regular browsing, the BRAVE-browser also keeps track of the ads and tracers blocked.

It is possible to be rewarded with BAT.
For this you need to activate and set-up your built-in Cryptowallet (or connect your hardware wallet).
BAT can be earned as a user, content-creator or advertiser.
Various options are available and pre-implemented for use.
Like classic browsers it is possible to switch and synchronize from previous browsers.
BRAVE enables the possibility to carbon-copy the cookies and active logins and directly store it (securely) within.
The community behind BRAVE is small but highly knowledgeable. Issues reported tend to be fixed quickly and development is rapid.
The browser itself is also available for mobile and can be downloaded through the Google Play store and App Store .
All in all, I highly recommend anyone downloading this browser and investing in BAT.
It improves user-experience and shortens loading time which gives the impression download and upload speed has increased (while in reality it removed unnecessary ads and trackers and refocuses speed on the actual files that needed uploading or downloading).
From an investors perspective I endorse BAT by reason of its association with BRAVE and the potential the setup holds for fast and ad-/tracker free browsing combined with high privacy.
I recommend beginning businesses and freelancers to make use of BRAVE and to invest in BAT due to the underlying philosophy on which the software and technology was created.
The tools, experience and developments offered are superb and will help businesses, advertises and freelancers to grow more efficiently.
