Life can be a bitch.
One day you may have windfall after windfall.
Breakthroughs, unexpected money and bonuses.
Good day at work, sudden promotions or increased paycheck.

Next day “BAM” mom dies out of the blue.
You get fired through directive order.
Diagnosed with a serious illness.
Technology and other stuff suddenly breaking down and needing to be replaced.

Jose Rosado, an interesting person whose newsletter I follow had a story to share.
He shared it through his newsletter, quoted in full below:

A couple of years back, I was stressed out.

Money was tight.

My wife was expecting our first child.

I had no idea how we were going to make ends meet.

But in the middle of all that, I received what seemed like a blessing.

My employer at the time offered me a promotion.

They made me the marketing manager of the company, and with that came a nice salary increase.

So nice, in fact, that it allowed my wife to quit her job to stay home with our new baby and focus on the music academy she was starting.

It was perfect.

Or so we thought.

Only one month later I got an email from the company letting me know that I was being fired.

“Downsized” as they put it.

But the result was the same.

Not only was I out of a job, but my wife had quit her job a month earlier based on that promotion.

Take a second to just imagine yourself in this situation…

Your wife is staying home to take care of the kids, you just lost your job and there’s no money in the bank account to cover the bills.

That started a bit of a downward spiral for me.

Do you have any idea how it feels, as a man, not being able to provide for your family?

It ate away at me.

I developed massive headaches, panic attacks, and trembling that I couldn’t control.

I tried meditation, breathwork, and a few other things, but nothing could stop it.

Despite these physical issues, I still had to figure out a way to provide for my family.

Thankfully, I was able to jump into freelancing and had 2 or 3 clients I was doing work for.

That helped, but it still wasn’t enough to make a full-time income.

No matter what I tried, I just couldn’t scrape up enough jobs to make it work.

And the headaches and panic attacks continued.

This was probably one of the lowest points of my life.

I was being challenged as I had never been challenged before in my life.

But that process changed me.

Honestly, I’m not even sure how this happened, but that was the point when I rediscovered Twitter.

I had tried (and failed) to make money online a number of times

But with my back to the wall, I knew that this time was going to be different.

So I jumped into Twitter with all I had, started telling my story…

And it changed everything.

On my first month of selling on Twitter I made $2,533.75 – I had less than 1K followers back then.

Now my Twitter has become a steady source of income and new clients.

Who would’ve thought that Twitter had this power!?

Jose Rosado‘s story shows how fast things can turn.
It contains valuable lessons any wise man who cares about his family will tell you.

He had had windfall (promotion) but the company he worked for eliminated him anyway.
This is a first lesson: “you may be valued by others and be recognized for your merit, this does not exclude you from being replaced or ignored”.

Merit is something which opens up chances when recognized.
Chance remains just that… chance.

Decisions were made, like his wife quitting her job and follow a passion, but turned into liability.
This is a second lesson:every step and decision made has consequences and risks“.

This does not mean risks should not be taken.
It is implied every decision made must take into account the possible risks and, as soon as possible, be established in such a way it cannot turn into a liability or limit its impact.
Whether it was by chance or a conscious choice, his side-hustle of freelancing did just that.

Despite this, the situation was dire. So he made a pledge and pulled much of his attention into the establishing his brand and “gimmick” into a successful and working solution.
This is the third (and most important lesson):NEVER back down!“.

Despite the mental and health issues faced, there was grit and dedication involved.
Instead of backing down, the challenge was raised and taken (successfully so).
This is a story I have read often. A certain “wake-up call” that inspires people to greatness.

Many are afraid to get in such a situation.
People get emotional and want to give a pat on the back.
Saying things like “well done”, “handled that well”, “you are an inspiration”.
And they are right.
I applaud and respect people who show merit and grit like anyone else.

But those of us who had the privilege of being shared such intimate stories should be thankful.
Not because it did not happen (yet) to us but because we are given the opportunity to learn.
To be able to look at our own situation and take action BEFORE shit goes down.
To many it is schadenfreude. To the few wise it is wisdom.

I like people who take care of themselves.
Who can handle tough situations.
Fewer and fewer people seem to have this ability.
Hence why I compiled The Self-Made Man.

Why I wrote The Engine to Wealth and Draining The Swamp.
Finance and being able to hold yourself are KEY in modern society.
To not have back-up on your finances and to not being able to hold yourself IS SUICIDE.

Be inspired by people like Jose Rosado and honor them by acknowledging and respecting their stories through introspection.
Mirror yourself HONESTLY and realize many of us are but one bad day away of “life happened” before tumbling down disaster.

Take care,

Dimitri
