What is it?

Verge is a decentralized open-source cryptocurrency.

Like other cryptocurrencies, it makes the claim to make anonymous transactions.
Unlike other Cryptocurrencies, it makes use of the TOR-network and hides people’s IP-addresses which in turn effectively hides the users’ geolocation.

Verge is open-source and makes use of what is dubbed a “wraith-protocol“.
The hyperlink explains what a wraith-protocol is.
For those who want to evade, or are not used, technicalities, the image below represents a clear overview what it does.

Further elaboration about the wraith-protocol can be found in this video.

UPDATE:

I was informed by VERGE’s Market Advisor that currently the name “Wraith protocol” is no longer in use.
Instead, it is opted to call it “Stealth-Transaction”.
Furthermore the secured transactions take place on a public ledger and not on a private ledger.

See image below.

Verge itself has been in existence since 2014 although a variety of sources will quote 2016 as the year it was officially launched.

The reason to this is Verge being originally founded as “DogeCoinDark”.
The name stuck around between 2014 – 2016 until the founders decided they wanted to be taken more seriously and cut association with the popular internet-mascot (and the most renowned Shiba-inu) called “Dogecoin” .
Effectively revamping their project and putting heavy emphasis on anonymity and privacy (as proven through the developed and implemented “wraith-protocol”).

If we were to compare Verge with Bitcoin:
Bitcoin made it possible to have a decentralized Cryptocurrency.
Verge is the next step by having made possible 100% anonymous transactions.

Opinion and analysis:

Verge has a multitude of advantages over other Cryptocurrencies.

  • It has an open-source blockchain where spread, amount of users and other statistics can be double-checked but whereby metadata (user profiles, addresses, locations, transactions,..) remain sheltered and anonymous.
  • Transactions on the Verge blockchain are moderatly fast with thanks to an interval of 30 seconds.
  • Verge is ready for global adaptation due to having developed multiple wallet-applications (both desktop as well as mobile) for a variety of operating systems.
  • The maximum amount of coins has been fixed to 16,5 billion coins. This amount enables a more fair distribution, influences market-manipulation negatively and makes the coin accessible for regular payments.
  • By making use, and implementing, a wide variety of algorithms on the blockchain, it is possible to mine Verge with varied mining-equipment.
  • By implementation of the Wraith-protocol it is able to hide transactions by choice. This choice (of enabling or disabling tracking transactions) makes it a coin suitable for people who want to keep a ledger hence making it a coin also suitable for people who like transparency and bookkeeping.

With these advantages in mind I am fairly convinced about the success of this coin.
Definitely one to track and keep in our digital wallets and best used for making digital payments. It holds the potential to become THE standard Cryptocurrency on global finance. The raised commitment to privacy and anonymity makes it one of the more secured coins, and hence most safe to use, out there.
